#~What Are We Doing? ~#

This week we're talking about land and acknowledging the gifts the lithosphere provides. Well, my question for the week is : How has our lithosphere been destroyed or in other words what are some things that effect our lithosphere negatively.

  1. One thing I strongly disagree with is pollution. Pollutants in the soil most often result from industrial sources. Particularly insidious soil pollutants include lead, PCBs and asbestos. These pollutants may negatively affect human health and native plant and animal health. Pesticide use can also impact the land. One undesired impact of using pesticides is the death of native plant and animal species that also reside in the area.

  2. Just as Breah said that I agree with is pollution. Pollution is a big roll when it comes to the destroying of the lithosphere. Another is people pouring things onto the ground such as oils. People take the lithosphere for granted when they shouldn't because we live here.

  3. Pollution has made a huge impact on our Earth. People in the world don't seem to care much about it, but once the world starts falling apart they might catch the picture that we can fix the pollution problem in many ways. There are a lot of alternatives that we can follow up with to stop most of the polluting.

  4. Our Earth is very valuable to us, but we often times take it for granted. We only have a certain amount of land but a lot of times we use it for the wrong reasons. Rather than using our land for farming, we would rather build unneeded parking lots and buildings. I'm not saying that we don't need to build any new buildings or parking lots but we only need to build the ones that are needed. There are plenty of vaccant buildings around that could be used instead of building new ones. The next time that we want a new shopping center, we need to think about the damage it will cause to our lithosphere and try to find another option.

  5. Pollution is a very big problem that we need to deal with. It is destroying our enviroment from industrial plants and many other places. We need to fix this problem before it gets enven worse.

  6. Over-using the resources in the enviroment is causing harm to our enviroment. By over-using the products, we take away the resources from nature. If we over use them, the resoures can be used up. If we managed our use of things from the enviroment, we could fix this problem.

  7. The over excessive building of new businesses is a problem. As Anna Beth said, there are plenty vacant buildings around to use instead of building new ones. A lot of farmers that rent land are losing they're land to these businesses because they pay more, so we are losing land to grow food. This loss could potentially affect humans.

  8. One way our Lithosphere has been destroyed is strip mining. Vast areas of land are cleared and then stripped for minerals, or fossil fuels. These mines are usually not filled up, and are left as huge scars, reminders of the damage we caused on the Earth. With over development, over population, and excessive farming, we need this valuable land. We can't keep playing sandbox with the Earth, we have to use our space wisely.

  9. Even though we do not hear about much of pesticide problems , but they are still out there. Many times around farm areas pesticides run off when we have a hard rain killing everything such has plant life and insects and other creatures that live in the ditches near by. Even though this could turn into a big problem in the furture, we need pesticides to keep our farms runing and to provide fresh food to our community.

  11. We have created a major problem affecting the lithosphere. This has been caused by not recycling. With all of the plastic waste that was accumulated, only 7% of it was recycled our of 30 million tons in 2009. According to the EPA it takes 450 years for a plastic water bottle to decompose.

  12. One may think that pollution only affects the air around us. Affects only what we breathe into. But our lithosphere is being polluted just as much our air. When pollutants are dispersed in the wrong manner, our soil can be contaminated. This can lead to crops dying or even people dying from food poisoning.
